BAT WORLD SANCTUARY

The Largest Bat Sanctuary on Earth

Bat World Sanctuary is on the front line to end the mistreatment of bats. Each year we rescue hundreds of bats who might otherwise die. Lifetime sanctuary is given to non-releasable bats, including those that are orphaned, injured, and rescued from the exotic pet trade, zoos and research facilities. We are also involved in conservation efforts both locally and internationally.

Bat World was founded in 1994 and is a 501c3 non-profit, accredited organization with the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries.

Miss Audrey just had dinner, and she has something to say about it! 😁

Audrey is a big freetail (yup, that’s really her species name!) that was rescued from the DFW area this past winter. She has been getting plenty of rest, practicing her flight skills, making lots of new friends, and of course enjoying the fine dining during her stay! We are happy to see her thriving, and I think all the staff enjoys serving her dinner as much as she enjoys eating it. ❤️

Happy Mothers Day, in honor of all mothers both great and small. 🥰
This little mom was a miracle. She was accidentally hit by a Mack truck and later discovered, still alive, stuck in the grill of the truck. The truck driver felt terrible and called us to help her right away. Her wing was badly damaged and she subsequently lost that wing, and despite all odds "Miracle" survived in the care of Bat World volunteer Jacqui. Little did we know she was pregnant at the time of her accident. She went on to have two babies (pictured). Sadly, Miracle passed away, but not before raising her pups to adulthood. Her babies are now flying free, helping mere humans by eating insects (and likely making little miracles of their own).

It’s almost #MothersDay - in Honor of All Mothers Great and Small ❤️

While it may look like this Brazilian free-tailed bat mom is screaming for mercy in a room crowded with children, she is actually calling out for her one baby to come and nurse. She is surrounded by pups who belong to other mothers.

When a pup hears the call of his or her mom, that pup will call back until they find each other in the crowd, even if that crowd numbers into the thousands. A free-tailed bat mom and her baby can recognize each others voices and scents among tens of thousands of other mothers and babies on a cave wall.

Happy #Baturday! 🦇

Can you tell it’s almost treat time? The bats, especially the Carolia, get excited when they see the treat cart coming out! And who can blame them?

The bats think you should do something to treat yourself this wonderful Saturday too! ❤️

Happy #batbootyfriday!

Jim-Jaw, a rescued Mexican free-tail bat, is a permanent resident here at the sanctuary. He may have a crooked jaw due to a previous healed injury, but with a great little booty like this, we always are happy to make him a bat booty model.

He really knows how to model too, check out that over the shoulder pose! 😆

This little rescued Egyptian fruit bat wanted to pop in and show everyone through his happy ear wiggles, how thankful him and all his bat pals are to have such amazing supporters. ❤️

Thank you so much for everything you all do for the bats and the sanctuary. We could not do what we do without people like you! 🥰
